Yves Popow

Percussions

With a Master of Music degree, Yves is a passionate and versatile percussionist, both as a soloist and in chamber music. His energy and versatility have led him to perform in concerts in the United States, Asia and Europe.

His passion for percussion has led him to collaborate with many prestigious ensembles such as the World Percussion Group, Red Fish Blue Fish Percussion Group, Ensemble AKOM and United Instruments of Lucilin.

His enthusiasm for creating new repertoire for percussion has also led him to work closely with contemporary composers. He has had the honour of performing several world premieres, notably in the Netherlands and the United States, and in 2016 received the Tera de Marez Oyens prize at the Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht.

In addition, Yves has been involved in the Heritage Project, a community arts initiative for children, which has seen him volunteer teaching and performing in Thailand and Malaysia. This project aims to help children use their cultural and environmental heritage to create music and theatre performances.

A very active teacher, Yves enjoys sharing his knowledge of music and rhythm. For six years, he taught percussion and drums at the UGDA music school, where he trained many young musicians and developed a teaching approach centred on musical expression. This experience has strengthened his teaching vocation and his passion for passing on his knowledge.

In 2021 and 2022, Yves led several workshops as part of the EMCY (European Music Competition for Youth) on the theme of ‘musical storytelling’. With his new project, the percussion duo Point14, he has set himself the task of pushing back the boundaries between different musical styles.

At the same time, Yves is heavily involved in the Luxembourg music scene. He has worked with a number of local cultural institutions and artists, including the Philharmonie, the Fondation EME and the Mierscher Kulturhaus. Through these partnerships, he plays an active part in artistic projects aimed at enriching the country's musical landscape and promoting music education initiatives.

Since September 2022, Yves has been Deputy Director of the Union Grand-Duc Adolphe Music School in Luxembourg.
