Ralf Bach, born in 1959, studied classical piano and music education at Frankfurt University in the late 1970s. He was captivated by jazz while frequenting the jazz bars of Sachsenhausen and Albert Mangelsdorff's concerts at the Palmengarten, and since then there has been no escaping it. Bach has been a fixture on the Trier jazz scene since the mid-1980s, playing in groups with trumpeter Daisy Becker and alto saxophonist Stefan Reinholz, two of Trier's leading jazz stars. Since 1996, Bach has been playing with his own modern jazz quintet, Bachband, which in 2006 composed and recorded a CD entitled I nquieto. He has also formed a jazz trio.
