Boawéssé Kombia

Guitar, Bass

Boawéssé Kombia (alias Marcel) was born in Burkina Faso. At 17, he decided to go to Ivory Coast with the aim of becoming a professional musician.

Bouaké (Ivory Coast) 5 years later, he has become the star of the neighborhoods: stages, TV… it's enthusiasm. On the strength of this success, he left to try his luck in Abidjan. And luck smiled on him: he signed a contract as a chorister with the JazzClub d'Adjamé orchestra, run by Fax Clarke, a student of Louis Armstrong, who taught him the rigor necessary to play in an orchestra. In Abidjan, he also met Moctar Wurie, Sierra Leonean keyboard-arranger, with whom he still works today.

A few years later, he had the opportunity to tour Europe during 3 summer tours with the group Wountey, made up of 11 traditional musicians from the national troupe. To differentiate itself, Wountey seeks to modernize its repertoire and seeks "modern" musicians. Marcel, as well as a bass player and a solo guitarist, is hired to modernize the traditional songs. He then moved to France: SAWURI is the story of this journey between Africa and Europe…
